Wrist and Hand Pain

How can a Chiropractor help?

Wrist and hand pain is a very treatable injury which Chiropractors see in their clinics. At Bristol Chiropractic Sports and Family Clinic we help wrist and hand pain and injuries in various ways.
We use hands on treatment to loosen the muscles and joints around the wrist and hand, this helps the wrist or hand recover faster by regaining the joint and muscles function.

Wrists and hands usually respond very well as they are not load bearing joints, a lot of the injuries we see in these regions are due to repetitive use and so we often have to put in place a plan to help prevent the injury from being aggravated and to ensure that the joints and muscles can recover sufficiently.

In addition to hands on treatment, we will also give you home advice and exercises that will be monitored and progressed.

Should I use Ice or Heat?

With most injuries we tend to recommend using an Ice pack in the early stages of the injury (known as the ‘acute phase’).

This is because the cold will help clear away the dead injured tissue from the injury and allow new healing tissue to arrive.

We generally ask for your to not use an heat pack. Your clinician will be able to tell you if or when a heat pack is OK to use, if it is required at all.

What is the popping/cracking noise heard during treatment?

Chiropractors are known for ‘clicking’ or popping their patient’s joints to get them to move better – this is a gentle but very skilled, safe and powerful technique called ‘manipulation’. Chiropractors have five years of training in this form of treatment and use it every day, they will only use the technique if they feel it is necessary. Feel free to speak to your clinician if it is something that you feel you may not be comfortable with.

What should I wear?

To properly examine a wrist, we need to be able to assess the whole arm. A short sleeve top or vest will be perfectly fine for this.
